Site Reliability Engineers are the people who keep the wheels of this great big digital world turning for the billions relying on Microsoft systems to run their lives and businesses every day. They’re highly skilled, highly sought after, and Microsoft needed more of them. Now while it seems like you can’t turn around these days without spilling your coffee on a software engineer, it turns out these guys are thin on the ground. A very special breed apart. So special it would seem, the word “engineer” is too simple, too small a word to describe what they do. After all, they’re not in the engine room; they’re on the bridge, steering this big digital ship into the future. So the idea was to rebrand them for Microsoft as “Future Navigators”.
